Professor Christine Williams
Professor Williams was appointed the first Hugh Sinclair Professor of Human Nutrition at Reading in 1995. She has held senior posts at the University including Dean of Life Sciences in 2006-08 and Pro-Vice Chancellor Research and Innovation, 2008-2014. Her research has been concerned with understanding the impact of dietary fats on human health, particularly in relation to cardiovascular disease and insulin resistance; since 1976 she has published over 200 peer reviewed publications. Between 1998 and 2001 she was the President of the UK Nutrition Society.
She has been a member and Chair of a number of strategy and grant awarding panels since 2002, including for the BBSRC and WCRF. She is currently a non-executive Director of the SRUC and a Trustee of the British Nutrition Foundation. She was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Honours list in 2013 for her contribution to Higher Education and nutritional sciences. She is a Fellow of the Society of Biology, Honorary Fellow of the Nutrition Society and of the Association for Nutrition and was elected a Fellow of International Union of Nutritional Sciences in 2013.
