An authoritative voice for evidence-based nutrition
The Academy of Nutrition Sciences is a joint initiative between the Association for Nutrition, the British Dietetic Association, the British Nutrition Foundation and the Nutrition Society.
In 2018, representatives of the four major organisations involved in nutrition science research, the communication and application of research, nutrition education and nutrition professional regulation, met to consider what was needed to improve the knowledge and application of nutrition in the UK.
It was agreed that ensuring the quality of public information on nutrition is a critical goal and that the funding of nutrition research needs to be given greater priority than is currently the case. A Working Group comprising representatives from the four organisations was subsequently formed to consider how to address these concerns through the formation of an Academy of Nutrition Sciences. The Academy complements and will amplify the existing work of the four organisations. As a registered charity, the Academy is led and managed by a Board of Trustees, with support being provided as required by each of the member organisations and our volunteers.
The Academy’s objective is to improve public health and wellbeing by supporting excellence in research, education and associated activities to advance the knowledge and application of evidence-based nutrition science.
